Transitioning from a background in science to accounting and economics is a challenging journey, but 21-year-old Sanskar Kapadia has proven that determination and resilience can lead to success. Recently, he, along with Kamal Prasad and Fatima Siddeqa, was honored with the Most Outstanding Accounting and Finance Student (Department) Award 2024 at the University of Fiji School of Business and Economics ceremony held in Lautoka.
Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Kapadia shared how the shift to a completely new field led to initial struggles with unfamiliar concepts. However, with the support of his lecturers and his own commitment to hard work, he gradually gained confidence. Balancing academic demands while preparing for future career endeavors also posed significant challenges. “Managing deadlines, assignments, and preparing for the future wasn’t straightforward,” he admitted. Nevertheless, by staying organized, prioritizing tasks, and working part-time after classes, he maximized his time and developed resilience and adaptability.
Kamal Prasad also shared her compelling story of challenges faced during her student journey. With her mother’s motivational words in mind, “to achieve something, we must strive for it,” she pressed on through financial struggles, particularly concerning transport costs. She expressed gratitude for her father’s unwavering support and assistance, as well as the encouragement from her friend Ruqayyah Hakim, which helped her overcome academic hurdles.
Fatima Aiyesha Siddeqa, the 2021 dux of Nadi Muslim College, draws strength from the sacrifices made by her mother and grandmother. “I never wanted their efforts to go to waste,” she remarked. For Ms. Siddeqa, success transcends personal accolades; it is about creating a legacy of pride for her family. As the eldest daughter, she feels a deep aspiration to honor her family’s sacrifices, stating that one of her greatest joys is witnessing her aunt, grandparents, and mother beaming with pride at her accomplishments.
These inspiring journeys illustrate that with hard work and strong support systems, overcoming challenges is possible, and they reflect the hopeful possibilities of success for future students in any field.
In summary, the narratives of Sanskar, Kamal, and Fatima serve as motivational examples of how commitment and resilience can help individuals navigate the complexities of change and pave the way for meaningful achievements in their academic and personal lives.
