Transitioning from a background in science to the fields of accounting and economics has proven to be a challenging journey for 21-year-old Sanskar Kapadia. His hard work and dedication, however, culminated in recognition as he, along with Kamal Prasad and Fatima Siddeqa, secured the Most Outstanding Accounting and Finance Student (Department) Award for 2024 at the University of Fiji School of Business and Economics ceremony held last week in Lautoka.
Kapadia shared his initial struggles with adapting to new concepts in accounting and economics, underscoring the supportive role of his lecturers in helping him find his footing. He also managed the complexities of balancing academic responsibilities with career preparation, an endeavor he found to be quite demanding. “Staying organized, setting clear priorities, and working part-time after classes helped me maximize my time,” he reflected. These experiences have instilled in him a strong sense of resilience and adaptability.
Kamal Prasad, who also received accolades, recounted her personal challenges as a student. Her motivation came from her mother’s encouragement to strive for success. Despite encountering financial difficulties, particularly with transport, she emphasized the invaluable support from her father and friends, which helped her navigate her educational journey.
Fatima Aiyesha Siddeqa, who was the dux of Nadi Muslim College in 2021, highlighted the sacrifices made by her mother and grandmother as a significant motivating factor. She expressed her commitment to honor their efforts, stating, “Success for me extends beyond personal achievements; it’s about building a legacy and making my family proud.” Her aunt has also been a consistent source of encouragement throughout her academic endeavors, reinforcing the importance of family support in achieving personal goals.
This story is a powerful reminder of how determination, resilience, and the support of loved ones can help individuals overcome adversity and succeed in their pursuits. The paths taken by Kapadia, Prasad, and Siddeqa are not just about personal success; they symbolize hope and inspiration for many students facing similar challenges.
In summary, these young achievers exemplify how hard work, family support, and a strong sense of purpose can lead to remarkable accomplishments, inspiring others to pursue their dreams regardless of the obstacles they may encounter.
