Nineteen-year-old Jordan Miller never imagined that his trip to Fiji with the Australian schoolboys in 2022 would lead to his return as part of the Vodafone Fiji Bati team two years later. This opportunity has become a significant milestone in his rugby league journey.
Miller, a dominant prop, was raised in Australia, with his father hailing from Savusavu. He expressed his excitement about training with senior players and those from the NRL whom he idolized growing up, including Tui Kamikamica, Maika Sivo, and Viliame Kikau.
He thanked coach Waisake Kativerata for the opportunity that allowed him to make his debut with the Bati, starting his first match from the bench. “I’ve always wanted to play for Fiji,” he shared. “At 19, being around these big names in camp still feels surreal to me. It’s pretty crazy that I’m training with them. I didn’t expect this to happen so soon, but I’m thankful for the chance to be here. It means a lot.”
Over the past week, Miller has appreciated the team’s culture, noting, “Everything’s good – we have devotion twice a day and there’s a lot of energy. The camp is never dull; it’s genuinely fun to be a part of.”
This year, Miller signed a three-year contract with the Tigers and made his NRL debut in Round 15 against the Titans, in which the Tigers emerged victorious with an 18-10 scoreline. He was also recognized as the player’s player and best and fairest at the Wests Magpies Harold Matthews Cup U17s during their Junior Representative Award night in September 2022.
