Alexandra Tikomaitoga, a young entrepreneur, is making her mark by successfully managing her handicraft business at the Flea Market in Suva. Following her graduation from Baulevu High School, she decided to take a brief break before pursuing her university education. During this time, she is fully dedicated to her business, which involves creating handmade crafts that resonate with her community.

Through her endeavors, Alexandra not only supports herself financially but also honors her elders and local traditions by selling items that carry cultural significance. She is actively involved in creating various crafts such as woven mats and other handmade products, demonstrating her commitment to preserving heritage while also generating income.

Currently, at stall number 31 in the Flea Market, Alexandra’s business has gained popularity, especially for local products like decorative mats and other handicrafts that she sources and sells. Her pricing reflects the quality of her work, with mats priced between $450 to $700 and small crafts available starting at $10.

Alexandra’s business attracts customers from overseas, including Australia and New Zealand, but she also emphasizes the importance of local patronage. Within just one week, she has the potential to earn around $500, a notable achievement that can significantly support her family.

Despite facing challenges, Alexandra encourages her peers to harness their talents and not underestimate the impact of their efforts. Her story serves as an inspiring reminder of the positive changes that can come from community-driven entrepreneurship. She urges her fellow young individuals to utilize their skills effectively and highlights the importance of faith in achieving success.

In light of Alexandra’s journey, it becomes evident that with determination, creativity, and support from the community, young entrepreneurs can thrive and contribute significantly to the local economy while preserving their cultural heritage.
