Isikeli Ratubese has made history as he recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of the South Pacific (USP). The former student of Wainibuka Secondary School celebrated this significant achievement on Friday, marking not only a personal milestone but a notable moment for his family and community.

Hailing from the village of Bucalevu in Nakorotubu, Ra, Mr. Ratubese has maternal roots in Nasinu, Dawasamu, Tailevu. His journey was not without hardships; growing up in a rural setting, he faced numerous challenges, yet his aspiration for education fueled his perseverance. His parents, Josua Navunitoro and Merewalesi Adilalaciwa, were deeply moved, witnessing their son realize his dream amidst tears of pride.

Mr. Ratubese stands out as the first graduate from both his school and family, a testament to his dedication and hard work. Reflecting on his experiences, he acknowledged the struggles he faced, such as studying late at night and traveling long distances to reach his school. “There were times we had nothing,” his mother shared, recalling the family’s circumstances. “But we always told him, ‘Education is the way out.’ He listened, and today he made us proud.”

This milestone is significant not just for Mr. Ratubese, who articulated that this degree represents more than personal triumph; it embodies the hopes of his family, teachers, and community members who supported him along the way. He expressed a desire to inspire other students, particularly those from rural areas, emphasizing that with hard work, faith, and support, dreams can indeed become reality. “Don’t be afraid to dream big,” he urged. “If I can do it, so can you.”
