Former Fijian rugby star Seremaia Bai recently expressed his joy and pride in being featured on a limited-edition 400-gram pack of MILO, an iconic product he cherished during his childhood. For Bai, this recognition symbolizes more than personal achievement; it is a beacon of hope for young people in Fiji, many of whom grow up facing challenges related to education and basic needs.

During the launch event held at Nestlé’s headquarters in Wailekutu, Lami, Bai emphasized the importance of hope in the lives of children in Fiji, stating, “We all understand here in Fiji, not a lot of kids grow up in an environment where they have hope.” He recounted his humble beginnings, revealing that he played rugby with makeshift equipment, such as coconut husks for boots and trees for posts, highlighting that passion and perseverance were the true drivers of his success.

Nestlé Fiji’s general manager, Tim Inkster, expressed admiration for Bai’s inspirational journey and his commitment to nurturing future leaders through sports. Bai has actively collaborated with Nestlé since 2018, running holiday rugby clinics aimed at instilling values such as discipline and teamwork in children across Fiji. “It’s about building a better Fiji, not just better athletes,” Bai mentioned, showcasing his dedication to community development.

The initiative to celebrate Bai’s contributions aligns with Nestlé’s ongoing campaign to foster positive values and promote sports among young Fijians. Bai succinctly reflected on the emotional significance of his image on the MILO pack: “As a child, Milo was a treat we all loved. I never imagined one day I’d be featured on it.”

This narrative not only highlights Bai’s personal achievements but also serves as an inspiration for Fijian youth, reinforcing that with dedication and hard work, dreams can indeed be realized. Bai’s ongoing efforts to empower the next generation through sports provide a hopeful outlook for the future of youth in Fiji.
