From RKS Dreams to Royal Navy Realities: Apisalome’s Inspiring Journey

Apisalome Bai Seru, an alumnus of Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS), has shared his journey of success during the school’s centenary celebrations. Currently serving as an officer in the Royal Navy, Apisalome reflects on his upbringing and early education at RKS, where he developed a strong drive to achieve.

Born in the village of Nabaitavo in Naitasiri and married to Kesaia from Kabara in the Lau group, Apisalome is a father of six. He recalled joining RKS in 1987 when the student population was around 450. During his time, he excelled academically in the arts and sports, notably playing a key role in the school’s rugby teams that won titles in the Deans competition in the late 1980s.

After facing challenges in his academic journey, including a transfer to Ratu Sukuna Memorial School to retake his exams, he returned to RKS to pursue automotive engineering, where he once again contributed to the school’s rugby success. In 1993, he completed his studies and became the head boy, overseeing a growing student population.

Following RKS, Apisalome began his career as a trainee engineer in the Fiji Marine Department before joining the Fiji Navy in 2000 amidst significant political change. He later moved to the United Kingdom to serve in the Royal Navy, where he has enjoyed a career spanning over 21 years, currently as a naval engineer on the HMS Queen Elizabeth.

He encourages young people, particularly RKS students, to prioritize academic excellence and personal development while maintaining focus on their faith. He believes that success is closely tied to one’s spiritual foundation.
