Chance Wong, who faced rejection from three prominent schools in Suva in 2020, achieved a remarkable milestone on Wednesday by being honored with the Sacred Heart College Dux award. Wong, the head boy of the school, initially sought admission in three well-known institutions but was turned away. However, he took a leap of faith and enrolled at Sacred Heart College at the start of Term I in 2020, where he was welcomed with open arms.

At just 18 years old, Wong has earned the deep respect and admiration of his peers and teachers alike. During his graduation ceremony, several speakers highlighted his exemplary character and good manners. Reflecting on his journey, Wong described his acceptance to Sacred Heart College as a “blessing in disguise,” expressing gratitude for the series of events that ultimately led him to the institution.

“My main inspiration is my single mum, who has taught me and my siblings the importance of patience and resilience in the face of life’s challenges,” Wong shared. He noted that serving as head boy this year has been an endurance test, but he emphasized that with perseverance, dedication, and humility, anything is achievable.

Now, Wong is looking ahead, exploring options for furthering his education as he embarks on the next chapter of his academic journey.

This inspiring story highlights the importance of resilience and finding opportunity in adversity. Wong’s accomplishments serve as a reminder that perseverance can lead to unexpected and rewarding paths, and that challenges can ultimately propel individuals toward greater success.
