In a remarkable shift, Nasinu Town has transitioned from being deemed a “red zone” for high drug activity to a declared “green zone,” according to local police. This positive change is attributed to strong collaboration between various agencies, as highlighted by Felix Magnus, the Town Council Special Administrator’s Chair.

Magnus notes that the significant improvement comes from the launch of an awareness program that targets residents, particularly in informal settlements, to address pressing community challenges. As part of the initiative dubbed ‘Hands Across Nasinu,’ authorities and partners are actively visiting these areas to identify and tackle issues believed to contribute to crime and drug-related activities.

“This collaborative effort from all sectors of society, including government, religious organizations, and local communities, is essential in our battle against drugs,” stated Magnus. He expressed the goal of enhancing living standards for informal settlers while fostering a safer environment for all.

This initiative aligns with prior community-driven efforts, such as the “Hands Across Nasinu” campaign, which emphasizes community involvement in promoting safety and reaching out to vulnerable populations. Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua previously stressed the importance of active community participation to combat substance abuse and improve safety for families. Various stakeholders have recognized that uniting community members creates a formidable approach to addressing the challenges of drug misuse and crime.

Moreover, the consistent collaboration among local leaders, authorities, and community members showcases a commitment to meaningful change. By working together, Nasinu residents are taking significant steps to curb drug activity and enhance their community’s overall well-being. There’s a hopeful outlook as these efforts reflect an understanding that through unity and collective action, a safer and more supportive environment can be created for the youth and families in Nasinu.
