Pita Rabo, reflecting on his early journey in football, shares fond memories of joining the Rewa team for the Fiji FACT in 1998 at the young age of 21. He recalls the challenges faced by young players striving to secure a position on a team, highlighting the intense competition and the need for physical fitness.

Rabo reminisces about the thrill of being selected for the team and the sense of pride that came from the experience, even sitting on the bench during matches as he absorbed the atmosphere of Ratu Cakobau Park. “Camping with the boys and being part of the tournament was a good feeling at that young age,” he reflects. He admired his teammates, many of whom represented Fiji, and used their skills and the guidance of his coaches as inspiration for his own career.

The experience he gained during the 1998 tournament helped Rabo build a solid foundation for his football path, leading to participation in notable competitions, including the Battle of the Giants and the Inter-District Championship. Today, Rabo serves as a village headman in Kuku, near Nausori, and continues to nurture his passion for football through the next generation, particularly by mentoring his son, Asivurusi Rabo, who plays for the Rewa team.

Rabo emphasizes the importance of discipline and focus, crediting the coaches from his past for shaping his approach to the game and passing these values onto his son. His journey illustrates the impact of mentorship and tradition in sports, showcasing how passion and dedication can bridge generations within families.

This narrative also aligns with broader trends in Fijian football, where former players are stepping into coaching roles, building a legacy of experience and knowledge within the sport. The overarching hope for Rabo and his community is to foster an environment that encourages aspiring athletes to follow in their footsteps, echoing the spirit of resilience and ambition that embodies Fiji’s rich sporting heritage.
