Saiyad Ali has been a significant figure in the development of Navua football, currently serving as the head coach of the senior team. His association with Navua began in 1988 when he made his debut as a midfielder and played a crucial role in securing the district’s first promotion to the premier division in 1989, marking a historic milestone for the local football community.
After several years on the field, Ali transitioned to coaching in 2003, where he initially served as an assistant coach during Navua’s noteworthy victory at the Fiji FACT under the mentorship of JK Singh. His commitment to football development led him to multiple roles within the Fiji Football Association, including Development Director and National Team Manager. In these positions, he collaborated with renowned coaches, including then-national coach Carlos Buzzetti from Uruguay, enhancing his coaching skills and insights.
Ali’s pursuit of knowledge took him overseas in 2010, where he participated in a coach education program across five European countries. He later settled in the United States with his family. However, a visit to Fiji in 2022 spurred him to reconnect with Navua, and since then, he has been actively involved in the coaching staff.
This year’s BiC Fiji FACT represents Ali’s third consecutive year as head coach of Navua, culminating a remarkable journey that showcases his dedication and loyalty to both the sport and the community that helped shape his football career.
