From Pews to Pitch: Police Touch Rugby Ready for Sukuna Bowl Showdown

The Fiji Police Force Touch Rugby team attended a church service in Raiwaqa today, seeking spiritual grounding ahead of the much-anticipated Sukuna Bowl. The presence of the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team added an inspiring boost for the police players, further motivating them for their upcoming matches.

Touch rugby is celebrating its third year as part of the Sukuna Bowl program, where the Police Force will compete across four divisions: men’s open, women’s open, mixed open, and masters. Currently, the Police team holds the titles in the women’s and mixed categories, while the Army leads the men’s division.

Assistant head coach of the touch rugby team, Paul Darroch, shared that the men’s side has ramped up their preparations after narrowly losing the title last year. “They don’t want a repeat of what happened last year. They let it slip in the closing moments. This year, they’ve come back fired up, and well, only time will tell. When the dust settles on the Nasova grounds tomorrow, expect the police team to be throwing their blue colors up in the sky,” Darroch stated.

The Sukuna Bowl festivities will kick off tomorrow, featuring boxing and cricket as the opening events. Touch rugby games are scheduled to be held at the Nasova Grounds in Suva on Tuesday, promising an exciting start to the tournament.

This year’s Sukuna Bowl not only brings together various sporting talents but also reflects the spirit of unity and competition present in Fiji’s sporting culture. The engagement of teams from different divisions, including the much-admired Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s, highlights the strong community support and camaraderie that characterize these events, making it a celebration of both sportsmanship and solidarity.
