Joji Nasova, a standout player for Fiji Airways’ men’s rugby sevens team, is setting his sights on clinching the series title next year. The Ba native played a crucial role in his team’s recent success, helping them secure the HSBC Sevens World Series title after an impressive 25-tournament journey.
The 26-year-old made headlines with his powerful tackles and strong performance during his debut at the Hong Kong Sevens, which came just four months after he represented Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands. His skills further shone through when he was selected by coach Osea Kolinisau to join the silver medal-winning team at the July Paris Olympic Games.
In expressing his gratitude, Nasova remarked, “I can only thank God for all He has provided for me,” highlighting the significance of teamwork in achieving their goals. “Next year we aim to win the series, and we can only do that if we learn and work collectively.”
Reflecting on his remarkable journey, the former Dominion Brothers player acknowledged the sacrifices he made, stating, “I did not complete high school or have a job, so I gave my all to rugby, and it has brought me this far. I’m able to support my family.” His success has also impacted his family, especially as his brother, Iliavi Masori, was also part of the national sevens extended squad, showcasing their commitment to the sport together.
Currently, the men’s sevens team is enjoying a two-week break before reconvening in January to prepare for the Perth Sevens tournament scheduled for January 24-26.
