Nilesh Karan, a seasoned loan officer at the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF), is set to transition into a legal career after earning his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Fiji last month. At 47 years old, Karan’s journey to becoming a legal practitioner has been driven by his past experience in the legal field, particularly in Civil and Litigation matters.
With nearly two decades of service at SCGF, Karan has also held positions in law firms across Ba, Lautoka, and Nadi, as well as with the Housing Authority. Before his tenure at SCGF, he served as a senior credit officer with Carpenter Finance in Lautoka. His commitment to law studies was marked by perseverance; it took him seven years to complete his degree while juggling responsibilities as a working student and father of two.
Karan attributed his success to effective time management and a flexible study schedule that allowed him to balance lectures, study sessions, and work responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of support from his family, particularly his wife, who stood by him throughout the rigorous journey of education and family sacrifices.
Looking ahead, Karan plans to enroll in a postgraduate program and aspire to be admitted to the bar, further advancing his legal career goals.
This story serves as an inspiring reminder that with determination and support, individuals can successfully navigate multiple responsibilities and achieve their educational and professional aspirations. Karan’s journey is a testament to the belief that it is never too late to pursue one’s dreams, and his next steps could positively impact his community through his legal expertise.
