Amele Biu Besetimoala’s journey highlights an inspiring narrative of resilience and determination in the face of adversity brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 39-year-old former teacher from Sabeto, Nadi, recently celebrated her graduation with a Bachelor of Teaching in Primary Inservice at the University of Fiji’s ceremony held in Lautoka.
During the pandemic, Besetimoala lost her job due to her decision against receiving the vaccine, a choice that many have grappled with. However, instead of viewing this setback as a defeat, she embraced it as an opportunity to further her education. “I believe everything happens for a reason. Losing my job gave me the chance to focus on higher education,” she remarked, expressing her eagerness to return to teaching next year and continue her studies.
Balancing family life as a mother of four and managing her studies has presented its own set of challenges, yet Besetimoala has remained grateful for the support from her husband, parents, and in-laws, dedicating her achievement to them. She encourages others to chase their dreams, asserting that age, marital status, or children should not deter anyone from pursuing success.
Her reflection on perseverance reveals a profound understanding that true success goes beyond merely holding a job; it encompasses the pursuit of education and personal growth. Besetimoala’s narrative serves as a powerful reminder that despite challenges, with determination and willpower, anyone can transform adversity into success.
This story not only highlights the importance of education and perseverance but also inspires others to overcome their obstacles, fostering a sense of hope and motivation to pursue their aspirations.
