Amele Biu Besetimoala has turned the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic into a remarkable opportunity for growth and achievement. The 39-year-old former teacher from Sabeto, Nadi, marked a significant milestone by graduating with a Bachelor of Teaching in Primary Inservice during the University of Fiji’s ceremony at Saweni Campus, Lautoka.
Following the pandemic’s onset, Besetimoala lost her job after opting not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine due to the ‘No Jab, No Job’ policy. However, she viewed this setback as a chance to elevate her education. “I believe everything happens for a reason,” she stated, sharing her hopes of returning to teaching next year while also continuing her studies.
Balancing her responsibilities as a mother of four and a wife to a Naroi villager from Moala Island presented its challenges, but Besetimoala remained steadfast. “It wasn’t easy to manage my responsibilities, but I thank God for this achievement,” she expressed, dedicating her success to her supportive husband, parents, and in-laws.
Encouraging others to pursue their dreams without hesitation, Besetimoala emphasized that age, marriage, or children should not be seen as barriers to success. “If you have the will, you can achieve anything,” she declared.
Reflecting on her journey, she underscored the importance of perseverance. “Success isn’t just about having a job; it’s about striving for the highest level of education and personal growth.”
Her story illustrates the power of resilience, demonstrating how determination can transform obstacles into significant triumphs.
This narrative serves as an inspiring reminder that the pursuit of education and personal growth can flourish even in the face of adversity. Besetimoala’s achievement stands as a testament to hope and the belief that challenges can lead to greater paths when met with resolve and optimism.
