From IT Dreams to Haircuts: One Barber’s Journey of Passion

Abdul Imraz, a 23-year-old from Visama, never envisioned himself as a barber. He originally aspired to work in the Information Technology (IT) sector. However, circumstances led him toward a career that allowed him to explore his creative talents.

Imraz completed his primary education at Makoi Muslim Primary School and his secondary education at Nasinu Muslim College but soon realized that pursuing IT studies would not be feasible. Facing challenges common for many young people, he shifted his focus to hairdressing, discovering that he possessed artistic skills alongside a friendly demeanor.

His journey began at a small barber shop in Nausori, where he learned the trade and refined his hairdressing abilities. He later joined Super Fade Cut in Suva, a move inspired by the desire for a professional environment that offered modern haircuts and quality products.

“I love my work,” Imraz expressed. Despite his childhood dreams of working in IT, he found satisfaction in barbering. “My second interest was in barbering and salon services. So, when I couldn’t pursue IT, I decided to join this field.”

Imraz is grateful for the foundational experience he gained at Wananavu Barber Shop in Nausori, which provided a nurturing environment for him to learn. He acknowledged that he began with no skills but has now developed the ability to accommodate any hairstyle his clients desire.

Over the past four years at Super Fade Cut, Imraz has fully committed to his career and enjoys every moment. However, he understands the importance of balancing work with leisure. He finds relaxation in playing soccer, exercising, and watching movies.

Imraz values hard work and holds strong beliefs in passion, determination, and diligence. He advises young people to pursue education but emphasizes that if traditional paths fail, they should explore their inherent talents and interests.

“My advice to young school leavers is to not lose hope! You can achieve great things beyond your wildest dreams, but you must be willing to learn and dedicate time to your work,” he recommended.
