Abdul Imraz, a 23-year-old from Visama near Nausori, never envisioned a future as a barber. His childhood dream was centered on a career in Information Technology (IT). However, life took a different turn, leading him towards a job that highlighted his creative talents.

Imraz completed his primary education at Makoi Muslim Primary School and attended Nasinu Muslim College for secondary schooling. As he contemplated his future, he realized that pursuing IT studies might not be an option for him. Like many young individuals, he faced challenges in charting a career path and decided to explore hairdressing.

To his surprise, he discovered a knack for creativity and artistry in barbering. His friendly demeanor helped him secure a position at Super Fade Cut on Victoria Parade in Suva. “I love my work,” Imraz remarked. “Despite my childhood aspiration of working in IT, circumstances prevented me from following that path. I found my second passion in barbering and salon services. I quickly embraced the opportunity and began learning various hairstyles.”

He initially worked at a small barber shop in Nausori, where he not only learned the trade but also refined his hairdressing abilities. Although he has since moved on, Imraz is grateful for the guidance he received from his first employer. “I owe a lot to my former boss at Wananavu Barber Shop in Nausori, who gave me the chance to learn the skills I now possess. I started from scratch without any knowledge, but today I can tackle any hairstyle my clients request.”

His move to a shop in Suva was motivated by a desire for a modern, professional environment that provided quality products and a good learning experience. He found this in Super Fade Cut, where he has flourished over the past four years. “I’ve learned so much here, and I don’t feel the need to work anywhere else. I’m fully dedicated to my job and cherish every moment.”

Yet, Imraz balances work with leisure. To cope with the physical demands of his profession, he engages in activities that bring him joy, understanding that hobbies foster resilience and self-expression. “In addition to barbering, I enjoy playing soccer, exercising, and watching movies.”

Imraz values hard work and emphasizes the importance of passion, determination, and dedication. He encourages young individuals to pursue education, but if faced with obstacles, to embrace their innate talents and follow their interests. “My message to young school leavers is to hold onto hope! You can accomplish remarkable things you never imagined, but be willing to learn and commit time to your endeavors.”
