From IT Aspirations to Barbering Dreams: A Journey of Passion

Abdul Imraz, a 23-year-old from Visama near Nausori town, never envisioned becoming a barber. His original aspiration was to work in the Information Technology (IT) sector. However, life took a different turn, and he found himself drawn to a career that showcased his natural creativity.

After completing his primary education at Makoi Muslim Primary School and secondary education at Nasinu Muslim College, Imraz realized that pursuing IT studies would not be feasible. Like many young individuals, he faced challenges while exploring career options and decided to try his hand at hairdressing, discovering his creative and artistic skills in the process.

His friendly demeanor helped him secure a position at Super Fade Cut in Suva. “I love my work,” Imraz shared. He reflected on how his childhood dream of entering the IT field was hindered by various circumstances, leading him to explore his second interest in barbering. Imraz invested time in learning various hairstyles and believed he could succeed in this field by gaining barbering skills immediately after school.

Starting at a small barber shop in Nausori, he took advantage of the opportunity to learn the trade and develop his hairdressing abilities. He expressed gratitude to his first employer at Wananavu Barber Shop in Nausori for the support and mentorship he received. “When I began, I had no knowledge at all about cutting hair, but now I can create any hairstyle my customers desire,” he stated.

Imraz’s decision to move to Suva was motivated by his desire to work in a modern shop that offered professional haircuts, a relaxing environment, quality products, and valuable learning experiences. At Super Fade Cut, he has flourished over the past four years and feels committed to his work.

In addition to his job, Imraz maintains a balance by engaging in leisure activities. He understands that hobbies help improve mood and resilience. He enjoys playing soccer, exercising, and watching movies in his free time.

Imraz values hard work and advocates for passion, determination, and diligence. He encourages young people to pursue education but also to tap into their talents if they encounter obstacles. “My advice to young school leavers is to not lose hope! You can achieve remarkable things you never imagined, but it requires a willingness to learn and dedicate time to your work,” he concluded.
