Catherine Foster, the founder of Talamoana Designs, has made impressive strides in turning her love for crafting island-style textiles into a successful online business. What initially started as a hobby two years ago has blossomed into a registered enterprise specializing in hand-printed sarongs, head lei (fou), flowers, and tekiteki (sei).

Foster’s journey is not just a personal quest; it also stems from her commitment to provide for her family, which includes her two young children. Her passion shines through each handcrafted piece, which can take between 30 minutes to an hour to create depending on the design’s complexity.

A pivotal moment for Foster came when she enrolled in the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a program supported by the American Embassy in Fiji. This experience proved transformative, equipping her with essential skills in financial management, bookkeeping, and online marketing, which fueled her confidence to take her business further. “The AWE program gave me the confidence to move forward with my business,” she said, highlighting just how impactful the program’s training was.

With the skills acquired through AWE, Foster registered Talamoana Designs and established a strong online presence under the handle @Talamoana Designs. This strategic move allowed her to tap into a broader market, connecting with customers locally and across the Pacific region. Although she does not yet have a physical store, Foster embraces the potential of e-commerce, recognizing its vital role in business growth today.

Balancing her entrepreneurial pursuits with family life, Foster shares invaluable advice for aspiring entrepreneurs: “Just be yourself. It’s easy to be intimidated, but pushing yourself is key. There are no limits to what you can achieve.”

As Talamoana Designs continues to thrive, Catherine Foster’s story serves as an inspiring example of how passion, perseverance, and the right support can turn dreams into successful realities. Her journey highlights the transformative power of creativity combined with entrepreneurial spirit, inspiring others—especially women—to follow their aspirations. Ultimately, Foster’s success reflects a hopeful narrative about the possibilities that lie within each individual, encouraging everyone to pursue their entrepreneurial journeys with confidence and determination.
