Vika Nakacia, a determined young athlete from Yasawa, has overcome significant challenges on her journey in sports. Faced with financial constraints that often prevented her from affording transportation to training sessions in Lautoka, she embraced the difficulty as an opportunity for growth.
“I had to walk and run to our training sessions at Nadovu Grounds from my home in Kashmir,” Nakacia recalled, highlighting her dedication to rugby despite the obstacles she encountered. She acknowledged the added difficulties that female players face, including negative comments that can dampen spirits.
However, Nakacia’s resilience shone through as she refused to let discouragement deter her from pursuing her passion. “Through the sacrifices and obstacles, I managed to get through to where I am now,” she said proudly.
Having established herself in rugby league and also represented Yasawa in rugby union, Nakacia is now poised to showcase her skills on an international stage, looking forward to competing for Fiji at the Dubai Seven’s tournament. “I am really hopeful to do my best and make Fiji proud,” she expressed.
