A small room in the Vodafone Arena became a place of both joy and reflection for the Sagar family as they celebrated the achievements of their daughter, Priyashna Shivangi Sagar, who was honored with the Best Student Award in her Bachelor of Commerce program.
Sunita Devi, 56, and her husband Ram Sagar, 56, traveled from Nasau, Nadi, emotional with pride as they watched their 21-year-old daughter ascend the stage to receive her award. Priyashna, a diligent student majoring in Economics and Accounting at the Fiji National University, attributed her success to discipline and hard work learned from her family, who faced financial challenges while prioritizing education.
Growing up as the youngest of three siblings, Priyashna watched her father juggle multiple casual jobs to keep them in school and was motivated by her family’s struggles. “At times I thought about finding a job to help the family, but my brother encouraged me to focus on my studies instead,” she recalled.
Her academic career has been impressive; she was awarded the Dux prize in Year 10 at Mulomulo Primary School and finished second in her final year at Mulomulo Secondary School. With the aid of the National Toppers Scholarship, she was able to fulfill her educational ambitions.
Her mother expressed overwhelming pride, acknowledging the profound impact of various assistive programs that have supported their family’s educational journey. “The struggles we encountered over the years have paid off, and I can’t express how grateful I am for this day,” Sunita said.
Today, Priyashna is carving out her professional path at Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPGM) International Limited, embodying the dreams and aspirations of her family.
