From Grocer to Developer: Michael Joe’s Bold New Venture

Michael Joe is making a comeback.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has transitioned from being a farmer and grocer to becoming a landlord and, most recently, a property developer.

Recently, he held a groundbreaking ceremony for a $6 million project in the capital. This development follows the closure of his well-known supermarket, Joe’s Farm.

The event, which took place in Samabula, was officiated by Tui Suva, Sanaila Madanavosa, who praised the innovative spirit behind the project.

Located on Ratu Mara Road, the first of several Joe’s Farm buildings is currently underway and is expected to be completed by December next year.

Joe’s journey showcases his ability to reinvent his business ventures. As a serial entrepreneur, he has worn many hats, including farmer, golfer, exporter, grocer, business consultant, and investor.

“We established a joint venture with Cibus New Zealand to export locally grown produce from various farms across the country,” he explained. “We are also collaborating with the Government to create contracts for farmers.”

One of Joe’s ventures is set to bear fruit this month, as he prepares to export coconuts and dalo from Rotuma.

“A truck will be dispatched around the island to gather these products for export, marking a first for Rotuma,” he stated. “Our initial shipment from Rotuma is headed to New Zealand.”

According to Mr. Joe, the key to his success is straightforward: “Fear the Lord.”
