Michael Joe has made a significant return to the business scene after the challenges posed by COVID-19. Transitioning from a farmer and grocer, he has now taken on roles as a landlord and property developer. He recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a $6 million development project in the capital.
This new venture follows the closure of his well-known supermarket, Joe’s Farm. The ceremony, held in Samabula, was attended by Tui Suva, Sanaila Madanavosa, who praised the innovative spirit behind the development. Construction is currently underway for the first of several buildings on Ratu Mara Road, with a three-storey complex expected to be completed by December of the following year.
Joe’s business journey showcases his adaptability, as he has worn many hats including farmer, golfer, exporter, grocer, business consultant, and investor. He mentioned a new joint venture with Cibus New Zealand, aimed at exporting locally grown produce from farms across the country, and revealed efforts to collaborate with the government to establish contracts for farmers.
One of Joe’s upcoming initiatives is an export of coconuts and dalo from the island of Rotuma. He announced that a truck will be collecting these products around the island for export, marking the first such shipment targeted towards New Zealand.
The key to his success, according to Mr. Joe, lies in his faith.
