The Supercool Vatukoro under 18-21 rugby team has been actively engaged in fundraising efforts to prepare for the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s Carnival, a significant tournament taking place at the Wairiki Parish Grounds on Taveuni Island. Among their notable fundraising activities, the team has organized a kaji fundraising event centered around selling $10 playing cards, offering various prizes, to help cover expenses for the competition.

Team coach Ilai Nameke shared insights about their fundraising journey in an interview, expressing gratitude towards the parents and the local community in Nausori Village for their unwavering support. He noted that this assistance has been crucial in enabling the team to travel to the tournament. Despite facing challenges due to their geographical isolation, Nameke emphasized that such hurdles can lead to greater accomplishments.

In their recent matches, the team experienced a mixed bag of results, losing to St Teresa Naba with a close score of 5-7 after winning their opening match against Naselesele with an impressive score of 24-0. Nameke reflected on the journey, highlighting a positive development as one of their team members was selected to join the national under-20 team, underscoring the potential for growth and success stemming from their collective efforts.

The Vatukoro team is competing in Pool 4 of the U18-21 category, alongside other teams such as Naselesele, Davetalevu, and St Teresa Naba. Their dedication and hard work exemplify the spirit of perseverance in sports, providing hope and motivation for the future.

It’s heartening to see community support translate into opportunities for young athletes, illustrating that challenges can often pave the way for incredible achievements.
