William Fatiaki is a musician whose journey began in the lively atmosphere of family gatherings in Fiji, where music was central to every celebration. Growing up with a keen interest in the sounds of guitars, ukuleles, and drums, William developed a passion for music from an early age. His curiosity led him to study the finger placements of musicians at these gatherings, particularly admiring his uncle, Mervin Molia, who encouraged William to explore his musical talents.
At the age of ten, William began singing, influenced by the rich musical environment surrounding him. Reggae, country, blues funk, and soul genres shaped his vocal style and personal connection to music. Coming from a family with strong musical ties, including well-known musicians such as drummers Paul and Andrew Stevens, and diverse influences from his mother’s side, he embraced his heritage wholeheartedly.
His first notable performance occurred during a family birthday celebration, which solidified his aspiration to pursue music professionally. Over the years, he honed his skills by performing with various bands, including a stint at Castaway Resort, and later embraced the life of a freelance musician.
William is also a composer, creating original songs based on the stories and experiences of those around him. He finds inspiration in daily life and utilizes moments of reflection, such as walks or listening to music, to overcome writer’s block.
Sharing advice with young music enthusiasts, he emphasizes perseverance and passion, encouraging them to keep striving for their goals and making the most out of every performance. Currently, he can be found entertaining audiences at Broady’s in Martintar, Nadi, every Friday evening, where he continues to inspire others through his music.
