Viliame Magitilailai is eagerly preparing to embark on his secondary school journey at Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) this year. Hailing from Tokou Village in the district of Nasinu, Ovalau, Magitilailai achieved the distinction of dux at Marist Convent School in Levuka last year.
His receipt of this prestigious award marked a poignant moment as he bid farewell to Levuka to continue his education in Suva. Alongside him, school head boy Gabriel Rarawa from Visoto Village in the district of Lovoni will also join him at MBHS.
The recent prizegiving ceremony at Marist Convent School was graced by Annie Robinson, the Sales and Marketing manager at The Fiji Times and an esteemed alumna of the school. In her speech, she extended her congratulations to the students and teachers for their accomplishments during the academic year and offered best wishes to the Year 8 students transitioning to secondary school.
Established in 1882, Marist Convent has a rich history of educating many notable Fijians, including prominent leaders such as the late Tui Nayau and former President Ratu Kamisese Mara, as well as Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa. Last year, the school had an enrollment of 329 students, serving as a vital educational institution for the community on Ovalau Island. A total of 45 Year 8 students graduated last year, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey.
This year promises to be filled with new opportunities for Magitilailai and his classmates as they take their next steps in education, driven by determination and the support of their community.
Overall, this transition symbolizes hope and progress for the students as they move forward into secondary education, where they will continue to develop their skills and talents.
