Ana Yabakivou, a determined young woman from Nabubu Village, Namuka District, recently celebrated her graduation with a Certificate IV in Organic Agriculture from the Ministry of Youth’s Naleba Training Centre in Labasa. At just 18 years old, she overcame the setback of failing the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination (FY12CE) last year and took advantage of the opportunity to enroll at the training center this year.
Alongside 33 other graduates, Ms. Yabakivou is now looking forward to advancing her education at either the Fiji National University (FNU) Koronivia campus or the University of the South Pacific to continue her studies in agriculture. She expresses optimism about her future employment and is passionate about securing a job to support her family financially.
During her graduation ceremony, she invited her grandmother, Anasimeci Solokai, who expressed overwhelming pride and happiness at her granddaughter’s accomplishment. Ms. Solokai emphasized the importance of family support and the belief that with determination, nothing is impossible.
Despite facing initial challenges living away from home at the girls’ dormitory and missing her family’s comfort, Ms. Yabakivou rose to the occasion and successfully completed her course. She encourages other students not to lose hope, emphasizing that there are numerous opportunities available to achieve their goals.
This inspiring story highlights the power of resilience and familial support, underscoring that even in the face of adversity, success is attainable. Ana Yabakivou’s journey is a reminder of the potential within every student to overcome challenges and pursue their dreams.
