From Dreams to Enterprises: Celebrating MSME Day Success Stories

World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was celebrated on June 27th, highlighting the crucial role these enterprises play in fostering innovation, job creation, and sustainability. This year’s theme, “Small Business, Big Change,” prompted members of the Building at Sunset community to share their inspirations for becoming entrepreneurs.

Fina Bakani Fisher, the owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business with two properties: a two-bedroom setup in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night and a five-bedroom property in Pacific Harbour at $750 per night. Initially motivated by the desire to balance home life with generating household income, her focus has evolved toward achieving financial independence as her business expands, including plans for a new website.

Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, launched her cleaning business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Encouraged by local businesses needing cleaning services, she aims to expand her company from the Suva-Nausori area into additional towns. Motivated by personal goals and inspired by successful women in business, Nair emphasizes the importance of health and hygiene during her entrepreneurial journey.

Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, developed a passion for sports in high school, leading to a commitment to fitness and wellness. Her experiences have shown her the transformative effects of fitness on confidence and resilience. With over ten years of experience and several certifications, she established her fitness center to help others achieve their health goals.

Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153, is driven by a passion for sustainability and innovation in construction. She started the Innovation in Construction Hub to explore how local talents and new materials can address Fiji’s infrastructural challenges.

These entrepreneurs exemplify how MSMEs can inspire significant changes in their communities through innovation and dedication.
