Jone Raibevu has gained recognition for his impressive 57-meter penalty kick during the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Eastern Zone final. The 17-year-old has recently been selected as one of 28 players to join the Fijian Drua Academy, where he will undergo specialized training over the next three years with experienced coaches and high-performance staff.
A student at Queen Victoria School, Raibevu expressed his joy at being invited to the academy, stating that he never imagined reaching this level in his rugby journey. He sees this opportunity as a dream come true, one that he once thought he could only witness on television.
“I will seize every opportunity to learn from the Drua’s management and coaching staff,” Raibevu said. He emphasized the importance of the advice he received, aiming to achieve his aspirations of playing for the Fijian Drua team and donning the Flying Fijians jersey in the future. His commitment to hard work and following guidance is clear, as he dreams of making a significant impact in Fijian rugby.
Raibevu also encourages aspiring rugby players in Fiji to set their goals and diligently pursue them. The first cohort of academy players was chosen from 15 local secondary schools across the nation, showcasing the growing talent within the sport.
This initiative not only highlights individual talent but also represents a commitment to nurturing the next generation of athletes, paving the way for a promising future in Fijian rugby. With opportunities like this, young players can aspire to achieve their dreams and contribute to the rich rugby culture in Fiji.
