Ponipate Loganimasi made a significant decision in his life by choosing to pursue rugby over attending university, a choice fully supported by his father, Joeli Kalougata. This decision has proven to be fruitful, as Loganimasi has quickly made a name for himself on the international rugby stage within just two years of joining the national sevens team.

This year, he not only contributed to the team’s success by clinching an Olympic silver medal but also earned the distinction of being the only Fijian player selected for the World Rugby Men’s Sevens Dream Team of the Year, announced recently. His impressive performance continued during the World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup in September, where he made his debut for the Flying Fijians in the final match against Japan, scoring two tries in a notable 41-17 victory, securing the title for Fiji.

In addition to his achievements on the field, Loganimasi signed with the Fijian Drua in October, further solidifying his career in professional rugby. Hailing from his mother’s village in Nabua, Koroalau, Cakaudrove, and originally from Lovoni in Ono-i-Lau, the 26-year-old has truly embraced his sports ambitions.

Kalougata expressed immense pride in his son’s accomplishments. He noted that while the family initially suggested Loganimasi follow his older siblings to Brigham Young University (BYU) in Utah, his son chose to forge his own path. Kalougata advised him to rely on divine guidance for his rugby aspirations and stressed the importance of hard work, humility, and dedication.

Loganimasi was also a standout athlete in high school, having won a gold medal in the 200 meters at the Coca-Cola Games, and he has experience in both rugby and indoor basketball. His journey underscores the importance of following one’s passion, and it has clearly paid off both for him and his family.

Other notable athletes celebrated in the Dream Team include Selvyn Davids from South Africa, Antoine Dupont from France, and Terry Kennedy from Ireland, showcasing the caliber of talent with which Loganimasi competes.

This inspiring story of determination, family support, and athletic success highlights the positive outcomes that can arise when one pursues their dreams wholeheartedly. Loganimasi’s achievements not only elevate his own career but also bring pride to his community and serve as an example for aspiring athletes everywhere.
