Jone Raibevu, celebrated for his impressive 57-meter penalty kick in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Eastern Zone final, is overjoyed about his selection for the Fijian Drua Academy. At just 17 years old, he is one of 28 promising athletes chosen to undergo specialized skills training from Drua coaches and high-performance staff over the next three years.

The Queen Victoria School Year 12 student expressed immense joy about making significant strides in his rugby career, a journey he once only envisioned while watching on television. “I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would come this far in my passion for rugby; this is my dream coming to reality,” declared Raibevu.

Raibevu is fully committed to learning from the Drua coaches and is determined to maximize the opportunity. He stated, “When I heard all the advice from the Drua coaches and management, I took it to heart so I can achieve the goals that I have set for myself, which is to be part of the Fijian Drua team one day in the future. I also hope to wear the Flying Fijians jersey, and I will work hard and follow the advice given to me.”

In a message of encouragement, Raibevu urged young aspiring rugby players participating in secondary school competitions to set clear goals and strive towards achieving them. The initial selection of academy players came from 15 local secondary schools across the country.

This story encapsulates the dreams of young athletes striving for success in sports, illustrating that with determination and the right support, they can turn their aspirations into realities. Raibevu’s journey not only inspires his peers but also highlights Fiji’s commitment to nurturing future rugby talents.
