Labasa’s Christopher Wasasala, the decisive penalty taker in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) final against Navua, expressed his confidence in successfully converting the shot. The 29-year-old military personnel revealed that he did not anticipate the match would go to penalties, but when it did, he assured his teammates that he would take the final kick.
“After missing a penalty in the semifinal, I was determined to rectify that in the final and silence my critics,” he said, beaming with pride. He emphasized his certainty about taking the last kick, stating that he felt confident he could clinch the title for Labasa.
As the moment approached, he took a moment to pray for guidance before executing the penalty kick. “What occurred after the ball went into the net was beyond my imagination, a magical moment that will stand out in my career with Labasa,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, Wasasala confirmed his commitment to continue playing with the Babasiga Lions for the forthcoming season, with a desire to guide and mentor younger strikers on the team. He is now turning his attention to the upcoming Sukuna Bowl challenge next month in Suva, where he will represent the RFMF soccer team against the Fiji Police Force.
