Siteri Namere Nanovo’s journey to receiving the dux award at Saint Thomas High School in Lautoka is a powerful testament to perseverance and dedication. Unlike many of her peers who enjoy strong family support, Siteri has faced significant challenges while managing household responsibilities from a young age, including cooking and other chores, as she prepared for school.
At just 18 years old, Siteri and her five siblings have been raised primarily by their father, Ratu Sela Vunakasi Nanovo. She dedicates her dux trophy to him, recognizing his selfless efforts to provide for their family and emphasizing the importance of education in achieving a better future. “This dux trophy is for my Ratu, who has selflessly looked after us because he knows good education will get us a good future,” she explained. Having experienced the impact of their mother’s departure at an early age, Siteri has committed herself to her studies as a way to secure a brighter life for herself and her family.
Siteri’s father works in construction, and the family’s home in Natabua is conveniently located near the school, allowing Siteri to balance her academic responsibilities with helping care for her younger siblings. She expresses deep gratitude for her father’s sacrifices, noting that he has taken on both parental roles to ensure that they have everything they need. “Watching my dad with the sacrifices he makes has inspired me to strive for a better education and a better job to help him,” she shared.

She credits her success to her faith and determination, stating, “It was through God’s strength that helped me manage my time and prioritize my studies.” Looking ahead, Siteri plans to pursue a law degree at the University of Fiji next year, further demonstrating her commitment to creating a brighter future for her family.
