Ana Seru, a Year Nine student, was recognized as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade at Albert Park in Suva. Growing up in the densely populated Raiwaqa area, which is plagued by social issues, Ana described her experience in cadet training as a pivotal moment in her life. Throughout the week of training, she faced the challenges posed by the humid environment while learning marching techniques.
At just 14 years old, Ana reflected on her upbringing, acknowledging that it was not ideal, but emphasizing her commitment to excel academically. “Education is the only way to improve my life,” she stated.
Originally from Naivucini, Naitasiri, Ana believes in making wise decisions, particularly when facing peer pressure—a lesson she learned from her family. She dedicated her award to her siblings and her father, who were present at the event. “As the introvert in the family, I hope this award inspires my younger siblings to realize they can achieve their goals if they are determined,” she shared. Her siblings, currently in primary school, expressed a desire to join secondary school and participate in cadet training, motivated by Ana’s success.
