KALIOVA Saunirogo was filled with pride and emotion as he witnessed his younger brother, Joji Nasova, make his debut for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific. Despite challenging weather conditions, including heavy rain and flooded roads, their family made the journey to Churchill Park in Lautoka to celebrate this significant milestone.

In an emotional interview, Saunirogo reflected on their family’s journey, which began in the cane fields of Ba. He shared the humble beginnings that shaped their aspirations, revealing that while education was not the primary focus for them, a shared decision led them to Suva to pursue rugby. Today, Nasova not only represents the Drua but also follows in the footsteps of another sibling who has secured a contract in France.

Saunirogo’s pride was palpable as he recounted the joy of seeing Nasova don the white jersey of the Fiji 7s team for the first time. He recalled a pivotal moment in their lives when he worked in Australia under the NEC scheme, providing support for his brothers’ rugby endeavors. “Now he is where we wanted his rugby to be,” Saunirogo said, highlighting their collective perseverance and sacrifices.

Looking ahead, Saunirogo expressed hope that Nasova’s performance would be strong enough to ensure his selection for the next match, which is set to take place in their hometown of Ba. “We told him to play to the best of his ability, score a few tries, and ensure that he gets selected again,” he noted. A successful outcome would not only elevate Nasova’s career but also create a cherished moment for their family, bringing together relatives to celebrate his accomplishments.

As Nasova embarks on this journey with the Drua, he is already poised to leave a lasting impact on the team, despite it being his inaugural season with the Fijian club. The family’s unwavering support and dedication serve as a testament to the power of resilience and the bonds formed through shared dreams.
