Joeli Yabaki, the parade commander for Naqere Youth Training Centre, expressed that receiving the Baton of Honour has highlighted the importance of time management during his journey. The 18-year-old from Nabouwalu, Bua, participated in the carpentry program at the training center in Savusavu.
Mr. Yabaki described the cadet passing-out parade for students of the Fiji National Youth Training Centre as an emotional and powerful experience. The event featured cadets from two Ministry of Youth training centers—Naleba in Labasa and Naqere in Savusavu—who held a joint passing-out parade yesterday.
A total of 25 male and seven female cadets from Naleba, alongside 24 male and two female cadets from Naqere, successfully completed their cadet training course. Mr. Yabaki noted that the seven weeks of training instilled discipline and honesty among the participants, educating them on their responsibilities as patriotic citizens.
“The training has contributed to my personal growth and has taught me to make wise and timely decisions while leading the parade,” he stated. Family members attended the parade, and Mr. Yabaki emphasized that today’s youth often engage in unproductive activities; he learned the importance of utilizing time wisely in meaningful pursuits.
As the overall best all-rounder, he advocated for the continuation of the cadet training program annually to positively shape more students’ lives. Mr. Yabaki shared that all cadets initially felt pressure to meet the expectations of their parents and teachers. However, he noted that with each successful drill, their confidence grew.
