From Babysitting to Business: Arieta’s Inspiring Crafting Journey

Arieta Navosa, a small business owner, has dramatically changed her life through her love for handicrafts. At 61, this resident of Suvavou Village originally hails from Namata, Bau Tailevu, and spent many of her earlier years focused on babysitting. However, her life took a turn when a friend introduced her to a business program, prompting her to register as an entrepreneur.

Arieta joined the Fiji Arts Council and established her handicraft business at the FNPF Plaza in Suva. Notably, her business launch took place on her 60th birthday. She specializes in creating handmade earrings, necklaces, tie-dye fabrics, and a range of bags, including laptop, cosmetic, and handbags.

Her weekly earnings fluctuate between $50 and over $200, depending on customer turnout, with additional orders coming in from overseas. Despite her modest income, she manages to cover her $200 monthly rent and provide support for her family.

Arieta encourages both the youth and her peers to believe in their abilities, leverage their talents, and remember that it’s never too late to start pursuing their dreams. She also attributes her success to her faith in God.
