Graduation represents a pivotal milestone in the life of every student, encapsulating years of dedication, sacrifice, and personal growth. One inspiring story is that of Joshika Lata, who has overcome significant obstacles to achieve her dreams. As the current General Manager of the JP Bayly Trust, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting those in need, her journey began in 1990 at the Frank Hilton School, which caters to students with disabilities.
Ms. Lata’s early life was marked by challenges due to a physical deformity in her arms, which led to bullying during her school years. Despite these hardships, she remained resilient, believing firmly in the transformative power of education. “Growing up in a poor family, I recognised the impact that education can have,” she stated, pointing to her graduation as a life-changing experience.
After her secondary education at DAV College in Nabua, Lata pursued a diploma in business management at the Fiji Institute of Technology and graduated in 2005. Initially working as a spare parts clerk, she later transitioned to an accounts clerk position, which furthered her skills and expertise.
In 2018, she joined the JP Bayly Trust as an accounts clerk. Her determination led her to pursue further studies, culminating in a postgraduate degree from FNU in 2020. Subsequently, she was honored with promotions within the trust, including her recent appointment as General Manager in April 2024, a moment she described as both surprising and emotional.
Lata emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and professional growth, embodying the principles of education, experience, and exposure. Her commitment now extends beyond her own success to being a role model for young recruits and individuals facing similar adversities, spreading a message of hope and resilience. “I strongly feel I can inspire others to strive for success, regardless of the obstacles they face.”
This narrative mirrors similar stories of triumph, such as that of Priyashna Shivangni Sagar, who recently graduated at the top of her class from Fiji National University, highlighting the influence of family support and determination in overcoming financial hardships. Both Lata and Sagar’s experiences serve as profound reminders of how perseverance, education, and community backing can lead to remarkable achievements.
In summary, these stories not only celebrate individual accomplishments but also shine a light on the potential for growth and success in the face of adversity. They inspire others to believe in their ability to change their circumstances and pursue their dreams relentlessly.
