Ms. Lata’s educational journey began in 1990 at the Frank Hilton School, a special institution for students with disabilities. Despite the challenges stemming from a physical deformity in her arms and the bullying she endured, her spirit remained unbroken. “Growing up in a poor family, I recognized the transformative power of education,” she expressed, sharing how her graduation represented a significant turning point in her life.

After completing secondary education at DAV College in Nabua, Ms. Lata pursued a diploma in business management at the Fiji Institute of Technology, graduating in 2005. Her professional career began as a spare parts clerk, progressing to an accounts clerk role. Motivated by her father’s example, she furthered her studies and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fiji National University (FNU), balancing her job and education with unwavering commitment.

In 2018, Ms. Lata joined the JP Bayly Trust, where her hard work was soon recognized. She achieved a postgraduate degree in 2020 and took on multiple roles, including board secretary and accountant. An emotional highlight of her journey came during an April 2024 board meeting when she was appointed General Manager. “I was in tears when the announcement was made,” she recalled.
