At 31, Rumaana Vualiku Sheikh’s journey from a small village in Ba to her graduation day exemplifies her resilience and determination. As the eldest of five siblings raised by a single mother, Ms. Sheikh encountered numerous challenges throughout her path but remained steadfast in her pursuit of goals.

Earning a Professional Diploma in Business Management signifies the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifices. After taking a decade-long break from school, she returned to education while managing night shifts and attending afternoon classes, often battling exhaustion. Nevertheless, she kept her focus on completing her diploma.

“There were tough days,” she reflected. “But I kept reminding myself of why I started and pushed through.” While working at Mindpearl and later at Fiji Airways, Ms. Sheikh adeptly balanced her studies and demanding job.

With her struggles behind her, she feels a sense of confidence and reassurance as her dream has finally become a reality. Her siblings traveled from the West to support and celebrate this milestone.

Ms. Sheikh’s story transcends academic achievement; it serves as a powerful example of perseverance. “My mum has always been my biggest supporter,” she emphasized. “Seeing her sacrifices made me want to succeed even more.”

Looking ahead, Ms. Sheikh plans to continue her studies, potentially pursuing an MBA. Her experience illustrates that it is never too late to follow one’s dreams, irrespective of the challenges faced. For her and her family, this graduation represents not just a personal accomplishment but a symbol of hope and inspiration.
