Ana Seru, a Year Nine student from the densely populated Raiwaqa area, stood out as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park in Suva. At just 14 years old, she overcame the challenges of a one-week cadet training amidst humid conditions, while mastering various marching techniques.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Ana expressed that although her environment was not ideal, she continuously aimed for excellence in her education. “I had no other choice; the only way to improve my life is through education,” she stated.
Coming from Naivucini in Naitasiri, Ana emphasized the importance of making wise decisions, particularly when faced with peer pressure, something she learned from her family. She believes that making good choices leads to positive outcomes.
Ana dedicated her award to her siblings and her father, who were present at the event. She hopes that her achievement will inspire her younger siblings to pursue their dreams, especially as they have shown interest in joining secondary school and participating in cadet training after witnessing her success. “I’m the introvert in the family, and I want my siblings to know they can achieve anything if they set their minds to it,” she concluded.
