The Children’s Ward at Lautoka Hospital has been revitalized through a collaborative initiative involving the FIJI Water Foundation, FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical. This enhancement is part of the Wonderful Neighbour Project, which aims to uplift healthcare in the Western Division.
As an integral part of this initiative, employees from FIJI Water and NPDL were provided with FJ$100 and eight paid working hours to develop and execute significant community projects. This model not only fosters community involvement but also strengthens the bond between the organizations and the areas they serve.
Gavin Whiteside, CEO of Aspen Medical in Fiji, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, emphasizing the lasting benefits of the work done at the Children’s Ward. The renovations included refreshing the waiting area, upgrading restroom facilities, and donating a new washing machine and dryer, as well as adding a swing set and four trikes for the children’s enjoyment.
The extensive work undertaken involved water blasting, painting, tiling, installing new doors, and enhancing the outdoor environment by planting and landscaping. Over three days, 120 employees contributed to this cause.
Semi Lotawa, Director of the FIJI Water Foundation, highlighted that this year, 798 employees participated in 21 Wonderful Neighbour projects across Fiji, collectively volunteering over 4,500 hours. This latest project at Lautoka Hospital exemplifies the foundation’s dedication to creating positive change, instilling community pride, and fostering a sustainable future for the people of Fiji.
This initiative not only improves the facilities but also showcases the power of community action, demonstrating how collective efforts can make a significant impact on local healthcare services. It serves as an inspiring example for other organizations to follow.
