Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, has expressed his support for Rusiate Tudravu as the newly appointed Commissioner of Police (COMPOL). Mr. Chew commended Mr. Tudravu’s wealth of experience, highlighting his previous position as acting COMPOL and his overall assessment of the Police Force.
“He brings a fresh perspective,” remarked Mr. Chew. He encouraged the police force to rally behind Mr. Tudravu just as they supported him during his tenure, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.
As Mr. Chew’s two-year term approaches its conclusion, he reflected on the transitional challenges both the police and the Coalition government have faced. “We have made every effort with the knowledge and support available to us, always aiming to serve the people of Fiji,” he noted.
During a recent ceremony honoring over 300 police officers, both active and retired, Mr. Chew urged continued support for the incoming commissioner. Each officer was awarded a medal of honor recognizing their long-standing service to the Force and the nation.
“Let’s not allow minor issues, negativity, or rumors to deter us,” he advised. “Our priority should remain on delivering services to the nation, rather than getting sidetracked by internal distractions.”
Responding to inquiries about his new role, Mr. Tudravu acknowledged Mr. Chew’s leadership and indicated his intention to keep a low profile for now, promising to make a statement when the timing is appropriate. He is set to officially start his duties as police commissioner next month, while Mr. Chew will return to his role as Deputy Police Commissioner after beginning his leave this week.
This transition period presents an opportunity for the Fiji Police Force to strengthen its commitment to public service under new leadership. The recognition of dedicated officers reflects a continuous effort to honor those who serve and protect the community.
