Clotilde Baron, a 23-year-old French national with a strong rugby background, has chosen Fiji as the destination to pursue her passion for the sport. Arriving in early December after completing her master’s degree at ESSEC Business School in France, Baron was influenced by the prominent Fijian rugby players she admired while living in France. Her desire to explore the Pacific island nation and immerse herself in its rugby culture played a significant role in her decision to relocate.

“After graduating, I wanted to discover Fiji,” Baron expressed. “There are many Fijian players playing in France, and I had always heard about Fiji. I really wanted to experience the country for myself.”

Baron has joined the Sinu Kakala Amazons, competing in the 17th Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s held at Ganilau Park. Determined to focus on improving her rugby skills during her year off, she connected with the Nasinu Rugby Club, which paved the way for her involvement in local women’s rugby. “I wanted to use this year to improve my rugby, so I contacted the Nasinu Rugby Club manager, and he responded. That’s how it all started,” she recalled.

In addition to her athletic commitments, Baron gives back to the community by volunteering at the Beacon Learning Center in Nasinu, where she teaches French and tennis. One of her most cherished experiences in Fiji has been participating in devotion sessions and singing worship songs, which deeply resonate with her Catholic faith. “It makes me realize that what we do is not just for the team, but for God, and that there is something bigger that unites everyone,” she reflected.

Baron’s journey exemplifies the intertwining of sport, education, and cultural exchange, showcasing her commitment to both personal growth and community engagement while embodying the spirit of unity that rugby fosters. Her story inspires others looking to blend their passion for sports with cross-cultural experiences.
