A new medical clinic and mobile service dedicated to providing health services free of charge has been officially opened today in Olosara, Sigatoka, targeting the residents of Nadroga/Navosa. This initiative is a collaboration between the Reproductive & Family Health Association of Fiji (RFHAF) and the Govid Family Foundation (GFF), showcasing their commitment to enhancing healthcare access in the region.

Iftar Ali, the chief executive officer of RFHAF, expressed his gratitude towards the Govid Family Foundation for providing the necessary facilities at no cost. He specifically acknowledged Dr. Salik Ram Govind, a retired World Health Organization member and ex-parliamentarian, for founding the GFF with the mission of improving health welfare for humanity.

Dr. Govind emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, asserting that 90% of health issues can be addressed with simple, cost-effective measures rather than requiring expensive hospital infrastructure. In line with this, Mr. Ali mentioned that the clinic’s primary focus would be on youths, with specialized clinic sessions designed to engage and assist this demographic.

Additionally, seasoned health professional Rudolf Samoszynski from Canada, who has vast experience with international health organizations, will also be involved in setting up a robust health information system for this project. The clinic will operate Monday to Friday, offering a range of essential services including:

– Non-communicable disease screenings
– Family planning counseling
– Breast examinations
– Pap smear screenings
– STI management
– Infertility counseling
– HIV counseling and referral
– Gender-based violence counseling and referral
– Sexual and reproductive health awareness and education
– Antenatal care
– Mental health counseling
– Medical laboratory services
– Drug and substance abuse counseling

This opening comes at a time when enhancing healthcare facilities has become a pressing need in many parts of Fiji, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving public health outcomes. The efforts being made by RFHAF and the GFF reflect a positive and proactive approach to ensuring that essential health services are accessible to all, particularly in underserved areas.

Community engagement and direct feedback from beneficiaries will be crucial as the project seeks to adapt and respond to the evolving health needs in Nadroga/Navosa. Through these initiatives, there is a hopeful outlook for improved health standards and well-being throughout the region.
