The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection has recognized Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) for their commendable initiative offering free medical consultations and medication specifically aimed at individuals aged 65 and above. This program is designed to enhance healthcare accessibility for seniors, who often face challenges in obtaining the necessary care they require.
Minister Sashi Kiran highlighted that this initiative exemplifies the effectiveness of community action in supporting the elderly population. While existing government programs provide free medical services to some seniors, Kiran emphasized that this new initiative expands support, enabling even more elderly individuals to access essential healthcare services, thus improving their overall quality of life.
Additionally, Kiran brought attention to the rising issues plaguing the elderly community, such as neglect, abuse, and mental health concerns. She stressed the necessity for collective efforts to safeguard older citizens, especially as many are left vulnerable due to family members relocating.
To further support the elderly, the Ministry has scheduled a Recreational Day at Sukuna Park, where seniors can engage in social activities, receive free health checks, and enjoy entertainment. Kiran expressed that such efforts are crucial for instilling a sense of respect and care towards the elderly.
Backed by PSH and various partners, the Ministry aims to cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment for seniors in Fiji. This initiative not only affirms the government’s commitment to healthcare accessibility but also reinforces the idea that enhancing the well-being of the elderly community benefits society as a whole.
The proactive stance taken by the Ministry and PSH underscores a hopeful outlook for healthcare in Fiji, reflecting a united commitment towards ensuring that no one is left behind, particularly our senior citizens. By fostering community engagement and providing necessary resources, we can pave the way for healthier futures for all.
