Free Healthcare for Fiji’s Seniors: A Game Changer!

Senior citizens in Fiji now have the opportunity to receive free general practitioner consultations at Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital, a move aimed at bolstering healthcare access for the elderly population, particularly those lacking a stable income. CEO Parvish Kumar announced that this initiative not only supports senior citizens but also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that advocate for enhanced healthcare accessibility.

In addition to offering free consultations, PSH Hospital has lowered the costs of essential diagnostic tests, including ECGs, chest X-rays, and full blood counts, further contributing to more affordable healthcare options for all Fijians. Kumar also mentioned that the hospital is reviewing its pharmacy pricing and accommodation costs to ensure greater affordability in its services.

Previously, PSH Hospitals had already made strides in healthcare accessibility by significantly reducing GP consultation fees from $11.50 to $7.50, as part of a broader initiative to ease the financial burden on patients. This ongoing commitment to provide affordable medical care has garnered positive community feedback, reflecting a collective ambition across the Fijian healthcare landscape to improve patient access and care quality.

The positive changes at PSH Hospitals signal a hopeful outlook for the future of healthcare in Fiji, with the potential for inclusive measures that prioritize the well-being of all residents. By enhancing access to essential medical services, these initiatives contribute to a healthier society, encouraging individuals, especially senior citizens, to seek the care they need without the weight of financial worry.
