Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH Hospitals) has taken a significant step in enhancing healthcare accessibility by announcing complimentary GP consultations for senior citizens over the age of 65. This initiative is part of PSH’s broader mission to make healthcare affordable for all, particularly during difficult economic times.
The announcement, made by founder and CEO Parvish Kumar, follows PSH’s recent decision to lower GP consultation fees from $11.50 to $7.50 for all Fijians. Kumar emphasized that the new measure not only alleviates financial burdens but also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals aimed at making quality healthcare accessible to everyone.
“Most of our senior citizens often struggle financially and these consultations are essential for their health,” Kumar noted, highlighting that many in this demographic have limited or no fixed incomes. By offering free services to those over 65, the hospital aims to significantly reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses for this vulnerable group.
In addition to the free consultations for seniors, PSH also intends to enhance the affordability of essential diagnostic tests, as it seeks to develop a more inclusive healthcare system. The hospital operates under the Public Private Partnership scheme with the government, offering free services to qualifying members of the community, which complements its efforts to serve all Fijians equally.
With the introduction of initiatives like “Get Well Now, Pay Later” and reducing fees for consultations, PSH is poised to play a critical role in improving the overall healthcare landscape in Fiji.
