Island Medical Centre, located on Extension Street across from the CWM Hospital main entrance, has commenced a vital initiative by offering free eye screenings for adults and children starting today. The Centre’s Managing Director, Azad Ali, emphasized that this service aims to assist those in need by providing essential eye care without the burden of usual costs, which can amount to $50 for consultations and screenings.
Ali expressed the significance of eye health, noting that “a person’s eyes are just as important as the heart or any other organ in the body.” The free screenings will include various essential tests such as retina checks, reflection tests for eyeglass prescriptions, and cataract assessments. Notably, the Centre also has an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine, which offers non-invasive imaging for more precise eye diagnoses.
Importantly, while the screenings are free, any recommended post-screening treatments will require referrals to eye specialists, subject to certain conditions. Ali reassured the community that “no one will be turned back,” affirming their commitment to ensuring that everyone who comes to the medical centre will receive eye screenings without any costs.
This initiative reflects a broader movement seen in recent health initiatives that focus on enhancing eye health access, reminiscent of programs previously mentioned where free eye surgeries were provided to underserved populations. Such healthcare efforts not only highlight the importance of preventive measures like regular eye exams but also reinforce that timely medical interventions can significantly improve an individual’s quality of life, as echoed by individuals sharing their success stories following similar treatments.
As Island Medical Centre embarks on this outreach, it serves as a hopeful reminder of how accessible healthcare can profoundly impact the community, enabling individuals to lead healthier, more fulfilled lives.
